Restoring a classic or buying a new car?
25th May 2008
J. Z asked:
I found a 1969 Z28 camaro I want to buy. The body is straight with a few little dings but needs paint. Interior needs complete restoration. 302 V8 engine runs and is complete. 4speed transmission and rear end also work but are old. I want to rebuild this car and keep it maybe give it to my son when he’s older. My wife dosent understand this find, she thinks I should buy a new car. The price is right and I think it’s a good investment. Does any one know how hard it might be to find parts for a car like this?

The Cameros are pretty easy to find parts for, but with any restoration you will almost never get your money back. So unless you enjoy the restoration work, i would suggest against it.
As for giving it to your son, you might want to consider something newer (safer) for a first car. Just think about how you treated your first car, and you may reconsider getting your son something with ABS and airbags.
BUT, if your son is interested (and he might want to spend time with friends instead) it would be a great project to work on together…..(this option may also win over your wife’s approval)and maybe you can consider giving it to him, a couple years after he first starts driving.

well depends it shouldnt be too hard but you have to no where to go to get the parts and buyin a new car maybe easier but the camaro would be a fun project you and your son could work on but i dont no if u should give it to him because that is a classic and if it is crashed it would be expensive to fix and all that work would of been almost a waste of time

Buy it!!! You can restore it and sell it for a good profit! It has a 302 that generates enough power. It is worth it. Try to restore it to make it look like it did in 1969. Also there are some catalogs made specifically for the camaro, it has all the parts you need. Check out, and,. These are the two best websites for restoring a vintage Camaro! Good luck!
