restoring cars
Jamie N asked:

I want to repaint my 02 nissan maxima se, love the car but its been driven alot on boston area highways meaning, the front end is chipped, almost like it was sandblasted, the doors have a few minor dings on them not a problem, and just a few other scratches.. I didnt mind it much till today someone ran into the side of my car in a parking lot and dragged their bumper along the entire length of the car, I buffed most of it out and luckily there is no dent.. just the surface looks worn, this finally got me thinking that its a good idea to repaint the entire car, keeping in mind there are minor rust patches (im talking 1-2MM’s in diameter) in the front end chips, would these be a problem? I just want the cars surface to be like new again.. some basic service to restore its original beauty. I heard Maaco can do this for me.. any other suggestions for a reasonable price?

  1. Alright, Maco doesn’t do great jobs because everyone wants to purchase the paint that is mixed base coat/clear coat

You want to only purchase a paint job that is seperate clear coat and base coat

THey will run 800.00 to 900.00 if the prices are still the same

And after that, if you want a beautiful touch, have it wet sanded!! it will remove the orange peel and give you a awesome car show appearance

  2. id check with a few good body shops before i went to Macao ,they do alright ,if your planning on getting rid of it,but some of their work doesn’t hold up to well, they are cheap though about the cheapest ones around to paint the whole car,to give you a good idea of what a good job would cost for it,starting price on a good job should be around 800-1000 bucks for it,and that’s using real good paint,a good job cost a lot, cheap ones look good for while and then dull out, think it over, and decide, good luck hope this helps.

  3. The maco in my area does a great inexpensive job, it is a good Idea to do the prep work first, I myself sometimes prep cars for friends before an inexpensive place paints it, they lack in the prep, and in paint prep is 95% of the outcome, Ive got a paint job that is ten years old on one of my cars from Macco, and I recently color sanded it then I polished it out, and the paint looks fantastic, I get compliments daily if your close contact me
