19th February 2008
DrmmerBoi asked:
I havev a black leather bomber jacket that was left in the car too long. It’s become stiff and brittle. What can I do to restore it to it’s original (or comparaible) state?

It may be too late, but you could try some Olive Oil or saddle soap. You need to put oil back into the leather that has been removed by the heat. Try in a small spot that won’t show….

You are very likely looking at buying a new jacket, however, if you are determined to try and save it take it to your nearest saddle store or western store that sells tack for horses. They are leather experts ( or know where to find one ) and have all kinds of soaps, oils, glycerin bars etc to care for and rescue leather. Leather saddles, harnesses etc take a beating in the horse world with dirt, sweat, rain and manure so these people know how to care for leather.

You’ll probably have to buy a new one, but you should keep the old one. The worn, neglected leather look can be hot, and basically, a guy can never have too many leather jackets.
