car restoration
Mike J asked:

I have a 350 crate engine, car is in restoration process. Just had transmission rebuilt. It did it before but it shakes a lot more now. Tried tightening engine mounts. Checked timing and adjusted carb. What are possible causes? thanks

Albert

  2. sounds like a vacuum line is off or cracked or something along those lines take some ether and spray it around the lines if the engine picks up or dies or anything i would check that line over

  3. You should have found the problem before rebuilding. You may have to start from scratch and find the problem, then rebuild. In the 60’s shaking was good. It meant your car was hot. My brother’s 55 Chevy shook our apartment when he would drive home. He had to sell it because the neighbors complained. Love cars before 1970.

  4. Although you have tightened the engine mounts, did you check that the mounts were in good condition? They may look ok while fitted under pressure, but they could be split, /, damaged when out of the car. Also, check mounting surfaces where the mounts attach to, (brackets, Body), they may be loose or cracked. Check the same with gearbox mounts etc, If it is rear wheel drive, check U,J’s on prop shaft, if they are worn, they will shake the car a bit too. If this don’t work, check shock absorbers and coil springs as last resort. Good luck.
