yet another car restoration question?
29th January 2009
I have a vehicle, that was made back in 1981, that I’m interested in restoring/customizing. I want to replace the original engine, which happens to be a 6 cylinder, with a 8 cylinder engine that has the same specs (bore, stroke, etc.) as what would have been available from the factory for that model back in 1981. My question is, where would I find that information?
… And I’m looking for sources that are a little more reliable than wikipedia.

Where do I start with restoration of a ‘66 Bellevedere?
25th January 2009
I have already replaced the brake system. Car needs all new interior, fresh paint… I would like to make it “show car” material, but where do I start?
Car has been sitting for 25 years. The engine and transmission are still in good/working condition with matching #s.
Three things I want to know:
1. Recommendations on making engine appear “show quality”. It is currently greasy with chipping paint.
2. Should I get a paint job first, or redo interior first?
3. Maintenance to prep engine/transmission (flushing fluids…etc.)
The vehicle has always been in the family, and I would like to restore it’s original beauty with my son, however I have limited experience with restoration, so any tips would be appreciated.

Can I sue the guy restoring my 1973 Cuda?
22nd January 2009
Hey, I have a 1973 Plymouth Cuda. I sent it to a restoration shop to have it restored. It has been there since February 2007. He said it would take 6 months to 12 months to complete the restoration (it also says that on my receipts) and it is still not done. He closed his shop in September of 2007 and moved the car to his house to finish it. I have been calling and calling and I get no answer. I am not sure what my rights are or what I can do. I payed him over $6000 cash already (I do have the receipts). What should I do? Should I sue him? If so, how? I really love my car to death and I want it back, I just need some advice on what I should do to make this work out in my favor. Thanks.

How do I get financing to buy a restored VW Thing (Type 181/Kubelwagen)?
17th January 2009
How do you get financing to buy a restored used car from a private party? I am trying to buy a restored VW Thing and I do not have the money to pay cash all at once. This is not some junker… it’s a clean, quality restoration and has value. Are there companies that specialize in financing such purchases, or do I need to get some sort of (probably too expensive) consumer loan?
Wow, John, a little harsh there. It’s a taste thing. I’ve owned a ‘68 Beetle and a ‘71 Squareback, so I know I love air-cooled VWs, but I’ve loved the look of the Thing since I was a kid and have always wanted one… and body parts are not a problem since, as I answered, this is a clean resto. Plus, there are still specialists out there that offer parts and service for the type 181.
bostonianinmo: anywhere from 3 or 4 grand for a clunker to 16-20 grand for a clean resto… that’s what I’ve found. They’re rare and the people who have ‘em don’t often part with ‘em.

Looking for an old Chevrolet muscle car to buy?
13th January 2009
Does anybody have an old Chevy muscle car that is just going to waste that they want gone or know anybody that wants theirs gone or know where I might find one? My boyfriend had a car he was restoring that his father just sold so I’m looking for another old restorable car for him. Just tell me what the year and model of it is. If I decide to buy it for a reasonable price of course, we will personally come pick it up.
