Are the older chevy nova a good fixer upper car?
20th March 2008
my money tight, so i was woundering if i sould work on a nova i dont want to super charge it just repair it and do the ususal on restoring cars, plus i have never work on a car before. so do you think it a good frist car jto work on?
Martin
So, I am looking for a specific 79-85ish car for commuting/restoration. Most of these cars are having trouble passing smog and are getting scrapped.
How can I purchase a vehicle that won’t pass smog in CA? I don’t mind doing the repairs myself so that it will pass eventually, but I don’t know how to purchase it and actually transfer the title to my name without a smog cert.
There has to be a loophole… how to people buy parts cars or non-running cars?
Thanks in advance!

Can the city force you to get rid of your cars?
18th March 2008
The city has been ragging on me about my two cars in my driveway. These are not daily drivers and are restoration project cars. One is a 78 trans am and the other is a 87 fire bird gta. Both are not the most pleasant looking but I have plans. Still, these are my cars, and something I want to fix someday. Money is tight, so I cant really rush on them like the city demanded.
The city tells me one second they fall into special interest and the next they say junked and they want them gone. I have five days to get rid of them or they are towing them at my cost.
What are my legal options and how is this fair for them to just tell me what I can and cannot have car wise? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My neighbor is the one who has complained and complains about everything I do btw and there are other cars a few streets up just like mine and have been sitting for years. I think I have been selected out personally.
Why did I buy them? Well, at the time I did have money and time to fix them but well, life happens and plans don’t always work out the way you think.
Sadly my garage was converted and I cannot store them there.
The city told me to put them in the backyard but that is a city violation of its own.
Whomever left the thumbs down you have serious issues because all answers were awesome and different points of view I needed.
You have to much time on your hands, get a effin life!

First Car to Restore?
15th March 2008
I’d Like to restore an old car with my son preferably an older british car such as an mg. What do you think we should restore. I would like it to be reliable on the road also though.
Terence
As you can probobly tell by now, I don’t actually own my own car yet, but to add to my last question, If I did get an antique police car would it be legal to put a light and siren and police decals on it as long as it was clearly outdated? I’m talking about taking a 58 ford fairlane and doing a seni-complete to complete restoration, making it look like an antique police car. The 58 Fords have to be the most beautiful police cars ever made.

When President Elect Obama promised to go “Line by Line” to eliminate earmarks, what did he mean?
14th March 2008
I want you to know that some of these are OK with me. This is the first Budget signed by our new President, below is a list of a few of the 9,000 plus earmarks…
$200 million to refurbish the National Mall (including $21 million for new sod),
$50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts,
$650 million in coupons to help people switch from analog to digital televisions,
$2.4 billion for “carbon capture” demonstration projects,
$4.19 billion for ACORN and other “Community Stabilization Activities” groups (even though ACORN is the subject of a RICO corruption lawsuit),
$400 million for “global warming” research,
$335 million for sexually transmitted disease education,
$2.1 billion for Head Start,
$2 billion for day care programs,
$500 million to speed up the processing of Social Security Disability claims,
$150 million for “livestock insurance,”
$6 billion for colleges and universities,
$13 billion in Title I grants for academic support,
$13 billion for special education grants to states,
$20 billion for food stamps,
$1.7 billion to help the homeless,
$1 billion to pay heating bills for poor people,
$200 million for senior nutrition programs,
$200 million for Americorps,
$300 million for “green” golf carts,
$30 million for “smart” appliances,
$5 billion for public housing,
$87 billion in Medicaid funds for the states,
$2.5 billion for the National Science Foundation,
$2 billion for the National Park Service,
$2 billion for “neighborhood stabilization programs,”
$650 million for the National Forest Service,
$600 million for NASA,
$600 million for new cars for the government,
$75 million for programs to help people quit smoking,
$800 million for Amtrak (which hasn’t earned a profit in four decades),
$150 million for maintenance at the Smithsonian Institution,
$79 billion to help pay down state debt from reckless spending (in California, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts),
$17 billion for Pell Grants,
$400 million for “habitat restoration projects,”
$726 million for an after-school snack program,
$2.25 billion for national parks (essentially doubling the park service’s budget), and
$30 million to save the habitat of the “salt marsh harvest mouse” (which lives in the area of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi).
So, what did President Obama mean?
Fred K – Just a note: Dem Congress and House did not pass the budget, waiting for Obama to get in office. President Bush never saw the final product, you cannot sign what never crosses your desk! They knew Obama would just sign it.
