car restoration
Matthew M asked:

I emailed the owner of a mustang restoration shop near my house concerning a part time job a few days ago. He responded by saying to give him a call at the shop. Well I called him and he wants me to meet him up there and talk to him about it. He didn’t say anything about it being an interview, but I think that is what it should be considered as.

Anyways, I am only 18 years old, and I let him know in the email that I am looking to learn as much as I can about these cars and asked him if he needed someone a few days out of the week at the shop.

Well, looking at the pictures they have posted on their site:

http://www.prestigemustang.com

It looks to be a very casual environment, and I am assuming that “shop clothes” are worn in the back. What should I wear when I meet with the owner tomorrow?

Thanks,

Matt

What car would be a better restore and project car. A 1970 Caddy 4 Door Deville runs and drives, with a 472… Or a 1949 Caddy 4 Door did run and drives needs work to run and drive again.

Both are in good shape…..

My husband and I bought a Triumpg TR7 this summer. It’s brown with quite a bit of primer. It runs (needs a water pump) and is pretty solid. It’s a soft top. A local car restoration shop is interested in trading us the Triumph for a 1958 Hillman Minx straight up. I can’t decide if that’s a good trade or not. I really like the Hillman (they’re cute!) but I think the parts may be harder to come by and more expensive. Any opinions?
I must add that I am from the middle of the US. Hillman’s are EXTREMELY rare here. And TR7’s are sought after…at all….that why we only paid $250 for it.

I;m trying to find a great gift for my husband. His birthday and Christmas fall in the same week. He has had a lot of stress with work and stuff lately and I want to do something special just for him. His passion is cars and speed. He also love restoring and fabricating cars. Xtreme sports are another one of his likes. Any suggestions? We live in Florida.

I’m just started getting interested into car restoration after loving classic cars. I like anything with that sleek look, and possibly a long tail. I am 13 years old (yes 13, that was not a typo) and want to restore a car. Yes i know how much work it is and i don’t want anyone commenting on my age. I was wondering where i can get either a book or good resorce about car restoration knowledge for the beginner. Also i would love some suggestions on what car you think would be good to get and what condition it should be in when i get it.

Thanks for the help.

i would love an oldsmobile 442, because it looks great. Actually, any car on the Barrett-Jackson automobile auction look great. The best one i’ve seen on there was the 1959 de soto adventurer convertable.

Restoration included a completely rebuilt motor (to factory specs), same with the Transmission. New rubber trim around windows. Upholstery in ok shape, minor ding on front fender (which includes a trim piece which requires replacement). Paint in good shape, chrome not too bad but would look better redone. Some minor interior issues (flaking of chrome coating on cooling duct covers, small opera lights require replacement, no seat-belts in the backseat, worn out brake pedal). Needs wheels and likely new tires. Wheels on car missing all hubcaps which never stay on very well.

I bought a car from a private party. Call me stupid but I just got in a accident and needed a car fast because my job involves alot of driving. Well i ought the car for 3,000 and the repairs are major totalling a little more than 3,000 we are talking Strut ,power steering, timing belt, water pump and allignment, and god knows what else. You can’t even drive the car it shakes so bad and when you stop good luck. So needless to say i cannot even drive the thing. The owner I am now finding out he buys salvaged cars and fixes them up and sells them well he has sold more than he should without a liscence to sell, and he never told me when i bought the car that it had been restored cause it was salvage which makes me mad i would have never bought the car now knowing what i know, which is probably why the car drives like it does and has as many problems as it does. any one with advice i have tried to get my money back and his attitude is tuff you bought it you got screwed that is your problem.
