13th May 2007
What rust-removal or rust remover products are on the market that will help with de-rusting heavily rusted antique and classic car parts? also the body panels have surface rust on them that i will need to get rid of as well.

What was your first car restoration project?
12th May 2007
Soon I will be purchasing my first project car. Right now I’m looking into getting a 1962 Chevy Bel Air a friend of my brother’s is selling. I was just wondering what car did all of you start on, and how old were you when you bought it.
Pictures would be awesome, if available.

In February of this year my husband and I took a 67 rs/ss camaro to recently opened body shop for some restoration work. Against my better judgement we paid him 1,000 bucks to do some work to the car. Long story short he didnt work on the car and he skipped the state with not only ours but several peoples money. He has been sued already by a couple people and the judge knows him well by now. I lost our reciept though so I am worried he will deny even taking the money. When he was in court on another matter he was actually served with our suit he responded by experatingly asking the judge what he should do now (or so I heard) and the judge said pay the man. So do we have a leg to stand on? Since he has conned several people our story isnt so far fetched for a judge to believe. My husband and I have never been in any trouble or in court so our records are spotless and I highly doubt this is the first time he has been in trouble.
I dont have any contract or reciept. I paid cash. I have the car and the reciept from the parts I bought. A picture would obviously be proof the car was not worked on.
Would witness statements be helpful? Pretty well everyone I know knew the guy didn’t work on the car and ripped me off.
Well…I mean it is alittle damning that he didn’t deny it when he recived the summons in court. Dont you think?

Ok, here’s the problem, I have to find out if it’s easy to take out a 4 speed console out of a 1967 Chevy Impala parts car. We need the part for a restore, 1967 “SAME”.
What is the work involved to take that part out without damage to the part or anything else under that part. I have to do this and lets just say, I’m a first timer! LOL
So if you know, in detail, how to do this. The information would be much appericated. THANKS!

Now that the car is completely restored, I need it inspected. NY won’t inspect without title, and WA won’t issue title without inspection. WA is too far to drive to. Please Help!!!!!

What are some health risks from restoring cars?
1st May 2007
My dad is currently working on restoring his GTO and the past few weeks he and he has been using Bondo and other chemicals to strip the car and prepare it for paint.
My dad has very weak lungs and he won’t listen to me when I ask him to put on a mask. He says that he doesn’t need one, but all he’s been doing lately is cough- it doesn’t help that he has Chronic Bronchitis.
Can anyone help me find specific risks that he’s taking by not wearing a mask? My dad’s philosophy is, If they can go without a mask, so can I. I know it’s also an issue of being a man and not looking weak; his friends who are helping him realize that he’s not in the best condition but they’re doing nothing about it. I don’t want to have to see my dad suffer from inhaling all of these toxic fumes and to know he could have prevented irritation to his lungs.
I could put it in the Health section, but I’d rather hear answers from other car fans who have had similar experiences or advice on how to handle this.
Chuck
