Circumstances In Which A Coffee Break Is Mandatory
27th February 2011
The busy business concern world is known for its ability to cause heart attacks, strokes, hair loss, seizures, anxiety disorders, and depression. Not only that, life itself and all its many parts can lead to the same things with or without the busy business concern ingredient. A day in the life of a normal human being can be so stressful that facing an oncoming train causes less agitation than facing down your 2 year old or your boss. When life tosses you lemons, shrapnel, or grenades, the best thing you can do is take a deep breath, pull out the coffee grinder and coffee pot, and just enjoy a cup of coffee while the world continues to spin around you.
So, what happens when you wake up late on an important day, rush to find your tie and shoes but instead find a pile of shredded silk and fine leather in your dog’s bed? What should you do when your car won’t start, the subway is running behind, and the security guard at your work decides that the briefcase you carry to work every day seems a bit suspicious today? What can you do when the elevator is out of order and you work on the 18th floor? What happens when you get to your important meeting 45 minutes late to find out that you were supposed to be presenting?
When your day begins like this and doesn’t seem to have a silver lining, you need to sit down and sip a cup of dark French roast.
If you’re a mom, you’re day might necessarily play out like that, but in some ways it can be more stressful because you have little ones to care for. So what do you do when you have 3 children ages 5, 2, and 1 year old and they all decide that waking up at 5:30 am and having a toilet paper party in the bathroom is a good idea? What should you do when most of that toilet paper ends up in the toilet—at the same time? When your 3 kids decide to all demand different things for breakfast and have a fit until they get it, what do you do? What do you do when it’s time to wash the car and the hose has several holes in it? When it’s time to dry the car and you find that the air compressor filter is jammed with peanut butter, and the Ingersoll Rand compressor parts you ordered still hadn’t come, what can you do? Do you buy a new air compressor filter using your children’s college fund then cancel your order for Ingersoll rand compressor parts and demand they pay your for the inconvenience?
No, you need to call your mother in law, have her come sit with the kids, and you go to your local café and spend some time drinking a cup of your favorite hot mocha…slowly. Don’t rush! The house will still be there (hopefully), the car dried in the wind on the way to the café, and your husband may have been late to his meeting, but he still has a job.
If waking up every day and dealing with life is mandatory, coffee breaks should be too.
