car restoration
MATTTT asked:

I want to get a ford Mach 2 mustang for my dad when i become a major league baseball player, and yes i am going to the majors im not even kidding, (all county catcher as a sophomore). i want to buy a mach 2 that is in any condition and let Chip Foose take over. how much would it cost to have him restore the car in great condition, rims, candy paint, stereo system, custom leather, really good engine and all stuff to make the car as nice as possible. please give me a rough price if you know.

thank-you very much!

Leonardo

  1. It’s good to have a dream. As far as what Chip Foose would charge to do a car for you (He doesn’t do “restorations”, he does creations) would depend on how much time his people spent on it. You could always write him and ask.

  2. Seriously about a $100K+ for Chip to even look at your car. Chip is a good car guy, he knows his stuff and has the people to do the work. However, like any brand name your going to pay for it. There are many good restoration shops especially in Southern California. Either way to do a frame off restoration, clean paint, engine build, interior and everything else your still looking at upwards of $60K.

The paint, just the paint, not the labor, the sealer, the clear, cost me $11K for my truck. Interior was another $10K, wheels $9K. All said and done my full blown 1999 Chevy truck cost $82K start to finish and that was 8 years ago.

Truly nothing is more rewarding that seeing a dream come together. Keep in mind that your looking at $10K’s to achieve that dream and at the very least a solid year of work. Chip Foose is great, he does have a great price to go with his name.

Call around and find a few shops that can do the work in your area. Go to the shop and explain what you want to achieve. Ask to see pictures of their work and if possible talk to someone who has had their car restored by the shop. For a couple hundred bucks you can have a car artist do a rendering of the finished vehicle. Just like you see Chip do before starting a project. It will give everyone an idea of what you want and help you determine what color scheme will look best.

Good luck! Don’t get too hung up on names. Always keep in mind that whatever you think it will cost double it. Do the same for the time line. After having shops build me cars I know how frustrating it can be so know this going in. In the end it will all be worth it. Like I said there is no feeling in the world then the first drive in a newly finished project car. I am betting that your father deserves it after more than likely spending a lot of time helping you with your game. Good luck and be ready for a long and expensive project. In the end it is all worth it. Especially when your sitting in the garage looking at it and drinking beers with dear old dad.
